Feeding Fingers: My Imagined House

Feeding Fingers: My Imagined House

Music Video
Client: Feeding Fingers (Germany)
In March 2011 I was asked to direct a music video for the song My Imagined House by Germany-based band Feeding Fingers. I combined 3D animation with heavily manipulated video shot in the UK, US and Germany, achieving a bleak and sombre visual style that suited the song's mood.

Blog Post: My thoughts on the video, in a post on singer Justin Curfman's blog.

Wicked

Wicked

Musical
Client: The Gray Circle for Det Ny Theatre, Copenhagen
The Danish production of the hit musical Wicked was a bold steampunk re-imagining of the original show. With a small team I helped create sequences for 76 screens onstage, including large-scale back projection and a stack of eight HD monitors programmed to rise from the stage. As well as collaboratively creating backdrops and visual effects I was responsible for keying out green screen backgrounds from actors (including a green leading lady!) and compositing them within the artwork.
Included in showreel.

"The labels we assign to places, objects, events carry so much meaning but only when viewed in context and with our accumulated knowledge of what they represent. From another perspective, these things are just different configurations of matter."

A short video art piece soundtracked by James Allard. Screened at Sydenham Arts Festival 2011.

The Love for Three Oranges

The Love for Three Oranges

Opera
Client: The Gray Circle for Grange Park Opera, Hampshire
David Fielding's kitsch production of the farce opera by Sergei Prokofiev featured video projections by myself and two other colleagues. I created the two moon sequences seen in my showreel as well as a desert sunrise and a hallucination involving animated flying medicine bottles.
Included in showreel.

Egypt Documentary Art Film

Egypt Documentary Art

Site-Specific Installation
Client: The Gray Circle for Cairo Expo City, Cairo
The Gray Circle was commissioned to produce a ten minute "documentary art" piece for projection on the curved surface of Zaha Hadid Architects' Egypt pavilion at World Expo Shanghai 2010. During a five-week film trip across Egypt with a colleague I filmed in locations including the Sahara, Mount Sinai, the Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids. In post production I created an end sequence that includes a digital collage of rooftops that form an imagined Cairo cityscape.
Included in showreel.

Darker Shores

Darker Shores

Play
Client: The Gray Circle for Hampstead Theatre, London
A ghost story in the traditional English style, Anthony Clark's production featured back projection on large French windows. I composited several skies, oceans and crashing waves to create the stormy seascape in this clip. I also assisted at the theatre during the installation.
Included in showreel.

A Cycle

A Cycle

Video Art
Client: Self-initiated
"Man-made objects fall into disrepair and decay while their natural environment renews itself and takes over, ready to be disturbed again."

First collaboration with James Allard (Caves). A film created from overlaying photographs to create new textures and undefined shapes.
