crowd simulation: moths
A small-scale crowd simulation created in 3ds Max and rendered with mental ray. The moths fly towards and then away from the light bulb in seemingly random patterns, controlled by a chaotic vector field.
tunnel explosion
A short effects shot based on Pete Draper's tutorial in his book "Deconstructing the Elements with 3ds Max".
The tutorial was expanded on by adding steam jets from the rupturing pipes, and making one pipe rip away from the wall. I also added sound and the effects at the end.
monolith
A model based on the Necron Monolith from the game Warhammer 40,000. The design was adapted from a video tutorial by Cris Robson of 3D-Palace.com. It was modelled in 3ds Max and rendered with mental ray.
recycle
A (rather long) advert for recycling, created for my degree. The theme was "Sustaining the environment" and this was one of the pieces I made.
The music is "Another Version of the Truth", written by Trent Reznor and performed by Kronos Quartet and Enrique Gonzalez Muller.
space shuttle explosion
I wanted to try using 3ds Max's Particle Flow tools to blow up a spaceship, so I modelled a small shuttle craft adapted from 3D-Palace.com's "Badger Dropship" tutorial, and took it from there.
biolab: the virus
Biolab is a short educational DVD aimed at GCSE Biology students in the UK. We learn about one of the three main types of pathogen, the virus, and the immune system's response to it.
The DVD formed part of my final year project for my degree in digital animation at the University of Greenwich, and it features particle systems and small-scale crowd simulations to depict the behaviour of cells and virus particles. It was created in 3ds Max and rendered with mental ray.
The music was produced by David Utton and the voiceover was provided by Michele Walford.
